Donner Summit
Donner Summit is the name given to an area west of Truckee, outside of Truckee town limits, at approximately 6800' in elevation. The actual elevation of Donner Summit is over 7200' in elevation. It can receive considerably more snow than Truckee in the wintertime because of the altitude difference. There are several ski resorts located in this area including Sugar Bowl, Boreal, Donner Ski Ranch and Soda Springs. Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Area, located in Soda Springs, is the largest cross-country ski facility in North America.
Serene Lakes is a subdivision of 1000 lots and is not approaching build out. It is surrounded by land owned and managed by the US Forest Service and Royal Gorge. There is no swimming allowed in the upper lake (Serena) because the drinking water comes from the lake and is treated. You may boat or fish, but swimming is only allowed in the lower lake (Dulzura). There are no powerboats allowed in either lake, due to the water supply, lake depth, swimmer safety and noise pollution. There is a boat launch on the end of Sierra Road, and a large beach for swimmers on the south end of Serene Road. Though all property owners are encouraged to join the association, any property owner may use the beach area. Membership is not mandatory. The average lot size is 1/3 acre. Homes are served by sewer and propane.
